A New Adventure

The time has come to begin blogging again.  And why you ask?  Or maybe you didn't but I'm going to tell you anyhow. I have recently moved to a part of the country where I hope I will have new adventures, meet new people and generally start a new time of my life.

After living in Southern California for about 44 years of my adult life and then two years in Texarkana, AR as a "nanny" to my granddaughter, I am back in a warm climate with other people who have "grey hair."  I'm in the retirement state of Florida and specially in a town called Fruitland Park.  Fruitland Park (hereafter referred to as FP) is  about 4 miles south of the big retirement community of The Villages, about 30 miles south of Ocala and maybe 60 miles, give or take, northwest of Orlando.  In other words, I'm pretty much in the midle/midle of Florida generally called central Florida. Now why you ask would someone leave the wonderful environment of SoCal and the not-so-thrilling environment of Texarkana, AR. And again I will tell you whether you asked or not.

SoCal and especially Huntington Beach is an environment all to itself and generally indescribable unless you have a long time to read about its idiosyncratic style or have lived there. Basically, it is very expensive, incredibly beautiful year-round weather, very expensive, family still living there and surrounding towns, very expensive, lots of traffic and few jobs.  It is also very youth oriented, and altho there is a large retirement population, mostly you will see young bodies with blonde hair. On retirement income, a chunky-style body and grey hair, I kinda felt out of the scene. Yes, I loved being able to bike to the beach 4 miles away. Yes, I loved being close to my daughter, grandson, son-in-law, a couple of nieces and their families and 44 years of assorted friends and acquaintances. However, every once in a while, a time comes in your life, and specifically mine, where you decide you want to live how YOU and only YOU have decided to live out your "golden years." That time has come for me, ergo, my New Adventure.

I have a lovely 2 bedroom/1 bath apartment in a senior complex with lots of light, greenery and even a small lake which may or may not house a small alligator that I can afford and even have some money left over for fun things. Being able to afford to live and have some money left over and not merely "exist" is probably the biggest reason for the move. Ideally, with help from family, I am planning to purchase a 2 bedroom/2 bath villa in the retirement community of The Villages within the next year. In the meantime, I'm going to take advantage of lovely weather; including wonderful big, fluffy clouds that you don't normally see in SoCal, and meet some new friends and create some new adventures.

Stay tuned for further chapters of my new adventures.
